A new expansion has been announced: here or here or here or here

The new features are summarized as follows, though probably many more details will follow in the coming weeks.

* The Epic Conclusion to Volume II: Mines of Moria™ – Under the command of Celeborn and Galadriel, players will fight through vast armies of Orcs alongside the Elves of Lórien in a battle that will take them to Dol Guldur, the fortress of the Ringwraiths. This update includes Book 9 and the Epilogue to the sweeping epic tale begun with the award-winning Mines of Moria expansion.
* Increased Level Cap — Players will be able advance their characters up to level 65, gaining access to new traits, virtues, skills and class quests.
* Answer the Call of War! – Jump into the heat of battle with the new Skirmishes feature. Skirmishes offer endless action in repeatable, randomized instances where players can create and lead customizable soldiers into battle, training them to greater skill as they earn victories against the forces of shadow. Answer the call of war wherever violence erupts with the new “World Join” function that lets players and their fellowships band together to fight in various locations throughout Middle-earth.
* Take up Arms! – Infiltrate the dark jails, deadly arenas and savage stables of Dol Guldur, the fortress of the Ringwraiths, and strike a blow against Sauron’s forces in new 3 and 6-player instances. Call upon your fellows to adventure into the most deadly 12-player raid yet and face the ultimate challenge – the Nazgûl Lord!
* Major Gameplay Enhancements – Turbine continues to improve the award-winning experience of LOTRO with major improvements to the combat and Legendary Items systems. Players will experience improved responsiveness when in the heat of battle. Players will also be able to create and craft their own customized Second and Third Age Legendary Items from raw materials and grow their weapons’ power to level 60. Achieve new Legacies, new titles, and a fourth Runic slot that will make Legendary Items even more unique and powerful.

It is a paid for expansion with the base price going at 20 USD and EU options will be announced shortly.

I fear Nyyx is right... Let's hope and see.
Does that mean all will try to download at the same time? - Oh joy!

I did not think Mines of Moria was all that bad. Sure there were some odd stuff that needed repairing, but nothing too terrible. I wonder if Lake City and the Lonely Mountain will be included as well or if those will become available later one like with Lothlorien.

I expect the expansion to be available like with MoM: several packages with different sets of extra's. So no I do not think we will all be downloading it at the same time: a bunch of us will have the leisure of installing it from disc. Though undoubtedly, between the making of the discs and the going live, a number of bugs will be found and fixed, meaning that we all will be downloading the first update right away smile

Sounds like good news although I have the feeling that it will not be as extremly satisfactory as Moria was. For me at least. Judging from the 14 minutes video interview it looked like southern Mirkwood and the Dol-Guldur area will be implemented - there is moment were you can clearly see the new map for the area - but not the northern part with all the (for me) interesting places from "the Hobbit" are. Like Goblintowns eastern exit, the eagles resting place, the Carrock, Beorn's place (he may be dead but not his descendant), Thranduil's halls, the spider areas, the old forrest road and of course as Atrab stated Lakeville and the Lonely Mountain. This would make an expansion as huge and full with quest as "Shadow of Angmar" was at launch. I think they would be on a standalone update. I'm extremly curious about new items and the skirmish thingie looks interesting. I had one moment during the video footage were I really started cheering when seeing Bree under snow. Crossing fingers for cool special items delivered with the new expansion.
video interview part one
video interview part two

But somehow, from those informations, I can't shake the feeling it's more a 2.5 update than rather a "full" update to volume III

When it comes to regular content like quests and such, it does seem like it will be thin on that. Raising the max level to 65 is a good indication of that. However I think they will concentrate as well on making more end game: things to do when you reach level 65.

found some really interesting screenies here.

the new map is to be seen ! Yarrrr! as well as the new menu/GUI and some sneak peeks at the new skirmish system. Someone is setting the prancing Pony on fire - and for once I'm not the one beeing pyromaniac.

just be warned, there are quite some spoilers...

Concerning skirmishes, I think we can agree that we all enjoy them a lot. Despite the fact that starting with a level 30 soldier when one is 60 is a bit of a mess but that can be easily cleaned up. And the fact that running a skirmish actually *costs* money.

Logically I grabbed a Healer/Herbalist to take care of my morale during fights. Not only they heal you but they have a power replenishing aura around them. Just great ! I can keep hitting stuff without thinking of... erm... without thinking at all ! The next thing on my list is how she should look like. I eventually wanted to have her to look like Sarah Oakheart but on second thought, maybe not. As I don't really want to waste still precious skirmish points until I have upgraded her to level 60-65, I desperately searched for some gallery of the soldier cosmetics. For now I only found this one which looks more or less promising.

My little Tolbiac got a Champion/Warrior assigned (yes I thought very looong about it) and I wanted to have look like Gus, sadly I already know that there is no eye-patch available in soldier cosmetics.

What about you ?
