The day before yesterday three biscuits by the names of Lillymae, Gustavius and Atrab decided it was time for another adventure. They decided the epic 3-way quest in the Waterworks was an excellent choice especially since everybody could be summoned close to there in a short while and time was of the essence: RL mundane things like having to get up at 5:30 come morning kept us from having a lot of time on our hands.
Having entered the Waterworks, we did a quick inventory of our collective experience given this specific instance and after some heavy calculating taking the complexity of this instance, our classes and the quests into account we concluded it came to zilch, none aka nada.
We ventured forth anyway and did some serious tactic talk and lo' and behold on the first fight Gus died and third we had a full wipe out. As we realized that these were in all likelihood to be easier fights, we decided it was time for a change of tactics. Lilly's role as a minstrel was clear and we decided to chance Gus' mode from attracting aggro to something else and that Atrab would use his suberb burglar skills and sneak in and stab a mob to attract agro on at least one mob.
What ensued was a wonderful adventure in which we had to figure it out all by ourselves and mostly we managed wonderfully. We had to solve a bunch of mini-puzzles having to pull levers and turn wheel causing doorways to open sometimes no longer than a few seconds.
As we fought our way forward corpses lay strewn behind us, some of which actually enemies! The most hilarious death was probably when trying to find a way forward, Gus pulled a lever and pulled a causeway to disappear beneath Atrabs my feet leading to death by misadventure.
Still we managed to get a good way and even made a first attempt to finish the end boss (he wiped us) and managed to find out most of the secrets and finish a good number of quests and deeds. But in the end the aforementioned mundane issues kept us back from finishing it all in one run.
All in all I, and I assume we, had a LOT of fun not knowing ahead of time where to go, not knowing how to win a fight or how to solve a puzzle. Being clueless in the game and having to figure it out all by yourself is surely something I can recommend to anyone! Perhaps the three-way instances are good for that sort of adventure as they are bound to be reasonably in complexity and duration.
